Hidden Bench 'Terroir Caché' Merlot/Malbec/Cabernet Franc
Grape: (47%) Merlot, (29%) Malbec, (24%) Cabernet Franc
Region: Beamsville Bench, Ontario
Harold Thiel and his family founded Hidden Bench Estate Winery in 2003 with the goal of producing Terroir-driven old-world style wines. After experiencing these wines you’ll understand why they’ve been awarded top Ontario winery and made the list for best Canadian winery too! Dedicated to sustainable farming practices and no nonsense winemaking, every wine they make is a showstopper, but I couldn’t stop thinking about the Terroir Caché after trying it, and felt we’d be doing wine drinkers a disservice by not putting this local on your radar! A blend of (47%) Merlot, which brings fruit and plushness, (29%) Malbec for colour, tannin, and a lil spice, and (24%) Cabernet Franc, lean, structured, and savoury. Aged in French oak, 55% new for 20 months, this handsome fella has notes of rich blue and black fruit, plums, and tobacco with elegant tannin structure.
