Joan d'Anguera 'Planella' Carignan/Syrah
Grape: 90% Carignan, 10% Syrah
The D’Anguera family worked the vineyards of their property since 1820. Needless to say, they are experts of their craft. With seven generations of winemaking in the family, the father of current owners Joan and Josep was a maverick of winemaking and the first to plant the Syrah grape in the area. Joan and Josep dreamed of making wines that were more delicate and etherial than those commonly from Montsant and Priorat, transformed their vineyards and switched to Biodynamic farming practices. Planella is comprised Carignan sourced from 15 to 50 year old vines growing in the stony, calcareous soils of Finca Planella vineyard’s north-facing slopes.Concrete fermentation is followed by 12 months of aging in old oak barrels. Wild strawberry, floral and savoury, a lil fennel-y/liquorice, great minerality and acidity, warm spice finish. This wine will bulk up a little, but don’t let that stop you from enjoy right freaking now!
