Martoccia di Brunelli Luca 'Poggio Apricale' Sangiovese/Merlot
Grape: (85%) Sangiovese (10%) Merlot (5%) Colorino
In 1964 the Brunelli family managed to buy back their 3 hectare family farm in Martoccia that they lost during WWII, and purchased another plot of land in ’88 bringing their holdings to 15 hectares, 5 of which are classified as Brunello di Montalcino. The majority of their vineyards are on south facing slopes, and low yields are encouraged for maximum ripeness. The wine is aged in large old Slavonian oak barrels and partial French oak barriques. Classic Tuscan aromas of Morello cherry, sage, blackberry, and terra cotta earthiness, supple mouthfeel with grippy tannins. This is an excellent dinner wine for the whole meal.
